What is the Mary Seacole Leadership Programme

A 6-month leadership development programme, designed in partnership with global experts, recently refreshed and delivered by experienced facilitators to develop your knowledge and skills in leadership and management.

How is the programme delivered?

  • Online though the virtual campus which includes programme films, interactive content, discussion forums and online resources.

  • Through virtual one-day skills workshop.

  • In 12 units, each taking 5-10 hours of online study.

  • Units 1-8 cover leadership fundamentals and build on each other as the programme progresses.

  • Units 9-12 relate to core management skills e.g. fundamentals of finance, recruitment an selection and fundamentals of HR.

 Who was Mary Seacole?

The course is named after Mary Seacole a British-Jamaican nurse in the 1800s who cared for wounded British soldiers during the Crimean War. She introduced modern notions and standards of nursing, including the use of hygiene, ventilation, hydration, and rest, and reduced the death rate of wounded soldiers. Her leadership and courage paved the way for diversity in nursing in the UK.

Who is the programme for?

First time leaders in healthcare. It’s for you if you are in a ‘formal’ position of leadership with responsibilities for people and services, and able to relate what you learn to your workplace. You must be able to commit to a minimum of 5 hours of study per week.

Why should I join the programme?

  • The Mary Seacole programme is grounded in reality and results in real workplace application.

  • It provides balance between learning the theory and putting it into practice.

  • It empowers people in their first formal leadership position to turn their success into consistent team success and to champion compassionate patient care.
